What is the BCG Online Case (the “Casey” chatbot)?+
The BCG Online Case — often called Casey, after the chatbot that runs it — is BCG’s digital case-interview assessment. Instead of a live interviewer, a chatbot named Casey guides you through a single business case, asking 8–10 questions in sequence and finishing with a short recorded video. BCG uses it to screen candidates early in the recruiting process, so a strong result is often what stands between you and a first-round interview.
What’s the format, and how long does it take?+
You get one business case delivered by the Casey chatbot: roughly 8–10 questions in about 35 minutes, followed by a 1-minute video recommendation. The clock runs continuously — you can’t pause, and once you submit an answer you can’t go back to change it. It’s deliberately fast and high-pressure, much like a real case interview.
What types of questions does Casey ask?+
Casey mixes several formats: a structuring or data-selection question to open, then multiple-choice (single- and multi-select), number-entry questions that need quick case math, and short written answers. You’ll read charts and exhibits to pull out the right figures, and you close with a 1-minute video pitch to the client. Comfort with fast mental math and exhibit interpretation makes a big difference.
Can I use a calculator?+
Yes. The BCG Online Case allows a simple calculator and pen & paper, so you can focus on setting up the case math correctly rather than doing everything in your head. Speed still matters, though — a calculator only helps if you know which numbers to compute. Practise the same way: keep a basic calculator and scratch paper beside you as you run our cases.
How hard is it, and what score do I need to pass?+
It’s challenging — time pressure, case math and exhibit reading combine to catch people out. BCG has never published an official pass mark, so nobody can say for certain what’s required. As a rule of thumb, aim for around 80% to be on the safe side — the further above that, the more comfortable your margin. Our simulator scores every attempt, so you always know where you stand against that bar.
Is there an official BCG practice demo?+
As far as we’re aware, no. BCG doesn’t provide an official practice simulator or public demo you can rehearse on in advance. At most you might receive a brief format note with your invitation, but nothing that lets you actually practise a full case — which means the first realistic run most candidates ever get is the real exam itself. That’s the gap PrepCatapult was built to close.
